{"id":1432,"date":"2011-03-07T13:02:29","date_gmt":"2011-03-07T18:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1432"},"modified":"2011-03-07T13:02:29","modified_gmt":"2011-03-07T18:02:29","slug":"poll-shows-most-in-state-want-budget-compromise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1432","title":{"rendered":"Poll Shows Most in State Want Budget Compromise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Ken Goldstein, a PROFS Steering Committee member and political science professor, conducted a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpri.org\/polls\/March2011\/poll0311.html\">survey<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpri.org\/\">Wisconsin Policy Research Institute <\/a>last week and found that 65% of those questioned want Governor Scott Walker to negotiate a compromise with Senate Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that there are deep divisions among voters in the state. Those who oppose the governor&#8217;s plan do so overwhelmingly, and those who support Walker, remain steadfast. &#8220;This is stunning polarization like we used to see with George W. Bush in 2004,&#8221; said Goldstein.<\/p>\n<p>And while the poll found widespread support (81%) for plans to have public employees contribute more toward pensions and health insurance, it also found that the voters view public employee unions more favorably than politicians (59% to 46-50%).
