{"id":1904,"date":"2011-06-03T23:56:58","date_gmt":"2011-06-04T04:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1904"},"modified":"2011-06-04T08:23:03","modified_gmt":"2011-06-04T13:23:03","slug":"joint-finance-committee-passes-uw-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1904","title":{"rendered":"Joint Finance Committee Passes UW Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shortly after 7 pm Friday, the Joint Finance Committee voted 12-4 along party lines to approve an <a href=\"http:\/\/wispolitics.com\/1006\/110603UW_omnibus.pdf\">omnibus motion<\/a> that would grant greater flexibility to all UW System campuses. The motion does not include public authority status for UW-Madison, but does include the top priorities outlined by the Faculty Senate in May (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.secfac.wisc.edu\/senate\/2011\/0502\/2280.pdf\">Faculty Document 2280<\/a>), and lobbied for by PROFS over the past several weeks &#8212; the ability for UW-Madison to create its own pay plan and personnel system. Flexibilities in money management, procurement, and capital projects are also included.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1897\">noted earlier<\/a>, the motion also restores the cut to UW-Madison to about 38 percent of the total $250 million cut to UW System, rather than the 50 percent cut originally proposed by Governor Scott Walker. PROFS lobbied hard for this change, as it amounts to an additional $30 million for UW-Madison over the biennium.<\/p>\n<p>The motion also prohibits the Board of Regents from increasing tuition by more than 5.5 percent in each of the next two years.
