{"id":2540,"date":"2011-12-29T14:32:57","date_gmt":"2011-12-29T19:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=2540"},"modified":"2011-12-29T16:21:33","modified_gmt":"2011-12-29T21:21:33","slug":"lapse-cuts-as-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=2540","title":{"rendered":"Lapse Cuts As Expected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Administration <a href=\"http:\/\/wispolitics.com\/index.iml?Article=256703\">announced<\/a> last week its <a href=\"http:\/\/wispolitics.com\/1006\/large\/111223_DOA_Lapse_Plan.pdf\">plan<\/a> for a $174.3 million budget lapse over the current 2011-13 biennium. $123.2 million must be cut from FY 2011-12, with the remainder coming in FY 2012-13. It was <a href=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=2282\">announced<\/a> in October that UW System would shoulder the largest percentage of the cut &#8212; $46.1 million, on top of the <a href=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=1904\">$250 million cut<\/a> from the 2011-13 biennial budget last summer. UW-Madison&#8217;s share of the cut will be $18.1 million in FY 2012 and $7.7 million in FY 2013, resulting in a $25.8 million cut over the next two years.\u00a0UW System President Kevin Reilly <a href=\"http:\/\/bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com\/host.madison.com\/content\/tncms\/assets\/v3\/editorial\/a\/07\/a078384e-2819-11e1-9f34-0019bb2963f4\/4eeb97a8e7c60.pdf.pdf\">argued<\/a> that the cuts would be devastating to students and could result in larger class sizes, fewer classes, and decreased student services.
