{"id":2884,"date":"2012-02-28T17:16:49","date_gmt":"2012-02-28T22:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=2884"},"modified":"2012-02-28T17:16:49","modified_gmt":"2012-02-28T22:16:49","slug":"compensation-committee-releases-annual-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=2884","title":{"rendered":"Compensation Committee Releases Annual Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission on Faculty Compensation and Economic Benefits will present its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secfac.wisc.edu\/senate\/2012\/0305\/2327.pdf\">annual report<\/a> to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secfac.wisc.edu\/senate\/2012\/0305\/Agenda.htm\">Faculty Senate<\/a> on Monday, March 5. The 10-member group was chaired by Sociology Professor Adam Gamoran.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.secfac.wisc.edu\/governance\/FPP\/Chapter_6.htm#634\">commission&#8217;s charge<\/a> is to address matters of faculty salary and benefits, but the University Committee requested that the group tackle three additional items relating to the opportunity given to UW-Madison in the 2011-13 state budget to create its own personnel system. The commission was asked to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop proposals for faculty and staff compensation<\/li>\n<li>Examine the compensation tools developed by Vice Provost Steve Stern<\/li>\n<li>Assess the impact of lagging salaries and reduced benefits on faculty retention and morale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After several months of work, the commission offered a number of recommendations to help bring faculty compensation to a more competitive level:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborate with the Wisconsin Alumni Association to communicate with alumni, parents and friends of UW-Madison to develop support for a state pay plan<\/li>\n<li>Develop a modest merit-based supplemental pay plan for all staff<\/li>\n<li>Continue and develop new revenues for the &#8220;Stern Portfolio&#8221; of tools<\/li>\n<li>Identify additional markers of exceptional accomplishment for faculty salary increases<\/li>\n<li>Implementation of one-time salary increases for non-administrative service.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize endowed chairs for salary support<\/li>\n<li>Implement the Chancellor&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/adminexcellence.wisc.edu\/\">Administrative Excellence<\/a> (Huron) recommendations and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/edinnovation.wisc.edu\/\">Educational Innovation<\/a> campaign<\/li>\n<li>Direct philanthropic efforts toward salaries<\/li>\n<li>Limit undergraduate resident tuition increases to funds needed to offset state budget cuts while increasing student financial aid<\/li>\n<li>Adjust differential tuition to more competitive levels<\/li>\n<li>Encourage UW System to examine how it determines the 25% to 75% ratio of non-resident to resident students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission on Faculty Compensation and Economic Benefits will present its annual report to the Faculty Senate on Monday, March 5.
