A Democratic opponent will be chosen in a primary election on Tuesday, May 8. Four candidates are running on the Democratic ticket &#8212; Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett, who ran against Walker in 2010; former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk; Secretary of State Doug La Follette; and State Senator Kathleen Vinehout.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barrettforwisconsin.com\/\">Tom Barrett<\/a> has said that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barrettforwisconsin.com\/issues\/education\">college needs to be affordable<\/a> and accessible and the state must make a commitment to higher education. He also supports increased investment in university research and development.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kathleenfalk.com\/\">Kathleen Falk<\/a> has said she will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kathleenfalk.com\/issues\/2012-02-investing-in-our-future-with-education\">restore<\/a> the nearly $300 million cut from UW System and create the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kathleenfalk.com\/media\/press\/2012-04-falk-introduces-wisconsin-student-loan-debt-crisis-i\">Wisconsin Student Debt Loan Crisis Initiative<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.douglafollette.com\/\">Doug La Follette<\/a>, a former professor at UW-Parkside, has said that he supports <a href=\"http:\/\/badgerherald.com\/news\/2012\/04\/20\/q_and_a_with_doug_la.php\">improved funding<\/a> for the university, including increases in research funding.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/kathleenvinehout.org\/\">Kathleen Vinehout<\/a> recently said she would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/blogs\/news\/147765625.html\">restore<\/a> all funding cuts to K-12, technical and higher education. She also intends to fund UW System&#8217;s Growth Agenda, increase financial aid,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/badgerherald.com\/news\/2012\/04\/17\/vinehout_uw_system_f.php\">keep tuition affordable and work to improve graduation rates<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <em>Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/em>, WTMJ-TV, Wisconsin Public Radio, and Wisconsin Public Television are co-hosting a <a href=\"http:\/\/wptschedule.org\/episodes\/13814\/Wisconsin-2012-Debate-The-Democratic-Gubernatorial-Recall-Primary\/\">candidate debate<\/a> on Friday, May 4. The debate will air at 7 pm on public television and radio stations throughout Wisconsin.
