{"id":6183,"date":"2014-01-14T14:47:03","date_gmt":"2014-01-14T20:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=6183"},"modified":"2014-01-14T14:47:18","modified_gmt":"2014-01-14T20:47:18","slug":"journal-sentinel-on-uw-madisons-entrepreneurial-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=6183","title":{"rendered":"Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on UW-Madison&#8217;s Entrepreneurial Efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/media.jrn.com\/images\/MJSHomempageLogo_10042013.png\" width=\"330\" height=\"97\" \/>Kathleen Gallagher of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/\"><em>Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/em><\/a> wrote about UW-Madison&#8217;s economic development efforts and the launch of Discovery to Product (D2P) yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The front page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/business\/uw-ideas-factory-looks-to-turn-research-into-economic-growth-b99179713z1-239842261.html\">article<\/a> noted that Chancellor Rebecca Blank has the opportunity to fill three high profile director positions &#8212; University Research Park, the Office of Corporate Relations and D2P are all hiring.<\/p>\n<p>UW-Madison attracts more than $1 billion annually in research funding, <a href=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=3137\">ranking third<\/a> among research universities in 2010. The university <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/business\/uwmadison-lags-in-licensing-deals-creation-of-startups-f75jb7q-155380625.html\">lags<\/a>, however, when it comes to attracting research spending from business and commercializing research through partnerships with industry.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <em>Journal Sentinel<\/em> editorial board <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/news\/opinion\/uws-new-focus-on-tech-transfer-could-pay-off-b99183311z1-240020761.html\">lauded<\/a> the university&#8217;s efforts, D2P in particular:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Entrepreneurs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison soon will have a new advocate on campus that should boost the number of ideas that are commercialized, which we think should, in turn, give the state&#8217;s economy a boost over time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathleen Gallagher of the\u00a0Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote about UW-Madison&#8217;s economic development efforts and the launch of Discovery to Product (D2P) yesterday.
