Nomination papers are subject to verification, and a full list of candidates is <a href=\"http:\/\/gab.wi.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/page\/candidates_registered_08_12_2014_partisan_primary__10626.PDF\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There were few surprises, as most candidates had publicly announced their candidacy over the past several\u00a0months.\u00a0One exception is the surprise candidacy of former State Senator Gary George (D-Milwaukee). George served four years in federal prison after being found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the government in 2004. George filed papers to challenge longtime incumbent Congresswoman Gwen Moore, a Democrat from Milwaukee, <a href=\"http:\/\/journaltimes.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/on-politics-former-state-sen-gary-george-files-papers-to\/article_d080f01b-2815-57c9-815f-fbf7975a58f0.html?comment_form=true\">saying<\/a> public service is his calling.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, Congressman <a href=\"http:\/\/pocanforcongress.com\/\">Mark Pocan<\/a> faces opposition from Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/theronforcongress.com\/\">Peter Theron<\/a> of Madison.\u00a0Theron holds a Ph.D in mathematics from UW-Madison and is a math\u00a0instructor at Madison College. He ran against Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin in 2008, garnering 31 percent of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>State Representative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brett4us.org\/\">Brett Hulsey<\/a> will appear on the Democratic gubernatorial primary ballot with\u00a0Madison businesswoman <a href=\"http:\/\/burkeforwisconsin.com\/\">Mary Burke<\/a>.\u00a0State Senator <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lehman4ltgov.org\/\">John Lehman<\/a> will face <a href=\"http:\/\/wigp.nationbuilder.com\/mjwalters\">Mary Jo Walters<\/a> in the Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor. The winners will face Governor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottwalker.com\/\">Scott Walker<\/a> and Lt. Governor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccaforreal.com\/\">Rebecca Kleefisch<\/a> in November.<\/p>\n<p>The offices of Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and Attorney General all have crowded primaries:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">Secretary of State: State Representative Gary Bies of Sister Bay will face <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/julianbradley.org\/\">Julian Bradley<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\"> of La Crosse\u00a0in the Republican Primary. The winner will challenge incumbent <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.douglafollette.com\/\">Doug La Follette<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">, a Democrat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">State Treasurer: Democrats <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/wiTreasurer\">David Leeper<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\"> and <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.badgersfordavesartori.com\/\">David Sartori<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\"> face off in the Democratic primary, while <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/voteformatt.org\/\">Matt Adamczyk<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\"> and <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/randallmelchert.com\/\">Randall Melchert<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\"> are on the Republican ballot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">Attorney General: Three Democrats are vying for the opportunity to face Republican <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/bradschimel.com\/\">Brad Schimel<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">, Waukesha County District Attorney in November &#8212; Jefferson County District Attorney <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.susanhappforwisconsin.com\/\">Susan Happ<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">, Dane County District Attorney <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iozanne.com\/\">Ismael Ozanne<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">, and State Representative <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jonforwisconsin.com\/\">Jon Richards<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most incumbent legislators in Dane County face token or no opposition. However, first term Representative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Dianne-Hesselbein-for-Assembly\/263862800357371\">Dianne Hesselbein<\/a> (D-Middleton)\u00a0will face Middleton Republican <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renteriaforassembly.com\/\">Brent Renteria<\/a> in the 79th Assembly District.<\/p>\n<p>Two Democrats are vying to represent Assembly District 78: Alders <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markclear.com\/\">Mark Clear<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/lisasubeck.com\/\">Lisa Subeck<\/a>.
