{"id":6911,"date":"2014-12-08T14:19:14","date_gmt":"2014-12-08T19:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=6911"},"modified":"2014-12-08T14:19:14","modified_gmt":"2014-12-08T19:19:14","slug":"uw-system-president-ray-cross-remarks-to-regents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=6911","title":{"rendered":"UW System President Ray Cross&#8217; Remarks to Regents"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photos.uc.wisc.edu\/photos\/17763\/original\/Regents_meeting14_1755.jpg?1391873900\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"315\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">UW System President Ray Cross<\/p><\/div>\n<p>University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/news\/archive\/president-cross-presents-plans-to-transform-how-the-uw-system-does-business\/\">addressed<\/a> the Board of Regents Friday, broadly outlining reforms intended to improve efficiency and effectiveness while allowing the university to be more responsive to the needs of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the areas mentioned for reform:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faculty workload<\/li>\n<li>Class offerings and low-enrollment courses<\/li>\n<li>Search processes for chancellors<\/li>\n<li>Credit requirements<\/li>\n<li>Student segregated fees<\/li>\n<li>Administrative operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PROFS President Grant Petty <a href=\"low-enrollment%20courses here at UW-Madison are often also high-impact courses,\u201d Petty wrote in an email. \u201cThat is, they are usually taught to advanced students on a specialized topic by a professor with world-class expertise in that subject.  \u201cSometimes losing low-enrollment courses due to budget constraints means that our students lose valuable educational opportunities.  \u201cEfficiency at UW-Madison cannot and should not be measured strictly in terms of the number of student credit-hours taught,\u201d Petty wrote.
