{"id":7060,"date":"2015-02-03T11:24:26","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T17:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=7060"},"modified":"2015-02-03T11:24:26","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T17:24:26","slug":"walker-to-deliver-budget-address-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=7060","title":{"rendered":"Walker to Deliver Budget Address Tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Scott Walker will introduce\u00a0his 2015-17 biennial budget at 7 pm tonight. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wiseye.org\/\">WisconsinEye<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wpr.org\/\">Wisconsin Public Radio<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/wpt.org\/\">Wisconsin Public Television<\/a>\u00a0will stream audio and video of the address.<\/p>\n<p>The governor announced last week his budget will include a record <a href=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=7020\">$300 million cut<\/a> to UW System and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/news\/statepolitics\/walker-bypasses-gas-tax-hike-wants-13-billion-in-transportation-bonds-b99436196z1-290377171.html\">$1.3 billion in borrowing<\/a> for transportation, but additional details are scant.<\/p>\n<p>The Faculty Senate <a href=\"http:\/\/badgerherald.com\/news\/2015\/02\/03\/faculty-senate-passes-amended-resolution-regarding-budget-cuts\/#.VND7yFXF-nM\">voted unanimously<\/a> yesterday to support a resolution opposed to the funding cuts. A position on possible management flexibilities was not taken as those details will not be released until tonight.<\/p>\n<p>PROFS will lobby hard in the coming weeks to reduce the size of the cut to UW System. The state faces a projected $2.2 billion shortfall in the biennial budget if state agency requests are fully funded, forcing legislators to decide how to prioritize budget requests.
