{"id":7706,"date":"2016-02-11T14:33:39","date_gmt":"2016-02-11T20:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=7706"},"modified":"2016-02-14T19:47:11","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T01:47:11","slug":"profs-forum-on-self-insurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=7706","title":{"rendered":"Updated: PROFS Forum on Self-Insurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Walker <a href=\"http:\/\/host.madison.com\/wsj\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/scott-walker-pledges-to-put-self-insurance-savings-into-public\/article_55570ee0-6bb5-5ee9-995b-a5f87ddad472.html\">said<\/a> in his State of the State address last month he would use savings from changes in state employee health insurance for increased funding for education. One option under consideration is switching from the current model of HMO&#8217;s to\u00a0self-insurance.<\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Group Insurance Board has begun the process to consider self-insurance and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/etf.wi.gov\/boards\/agendas_gib.htm\">will vote<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday, February 17 on the language they will use for\u00a0a request for proposals from companies that may help with self-insurance in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years two different\u00a0consultants\u00a0provided very different cost savings estimates to the board, and the board is hoping new information will help them decide whether or not to move ahead with self-insurance. Background\u00a0information is available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wisbusiness.com\/index.iml?Article=362453\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>PROFS will host a forum on self-insurance and what that means for state employees, including UW-Madison faculty.\u00a0The forum will be held <strong>Tuesday, February 23\u00a0at 4 pm in the DeLuca Forum in the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery<\/strong>, 330 N. Orchard Street. It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The panel includes UW-Madison School of Business professor <a href=\"https:\/\/bus.wisc.edu\/faculty\/justin-sydnor\">Justin Sydnor<\/a>;\u00a0Lisa Ellinger,\u00a0Director of Office of Strategic Health Policy with the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds; and <a href=\"http:\/\/ppi.communityadvocates.net\/who_we_are\/our_staff\/#mike\">Mike Bare<\/a>, Research and Program Coordinator for the Community Advocates Public Policy Institute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Walker said in his State of the State address last month he would use savings from changes in state employee health insurance for increased funding for education.
