{"id":8577,"date":"2019-08-13T14:30:08","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T19:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=8577"},"modified":"2019-08-13T14:30:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T19:30:08","slug":"board-of-regents-public-hearing-on-speech-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/?p=8577","title":{"rendered":"Board of Regents Public Hearing on Speech Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"149\" height=\"131\" src=\"http:\/\/profs.wisc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/uw-system-logo.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-363\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/regents\/public-comment-form\/\">public hearing<\/a> at 3 pm this afternoon on rules related to a policy that calls for suspending and expelling students who disrupt campus speaking events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the university community and general public are welcome to offer testimony from 3 to 5 pm today at UW-Madison&#8217;s Gordon Dining and Event Center, 770 West Dayton Street or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/regents\/public-comment-form\/\">online<\/a> until August 20. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In October 2017, Regents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/news\/archive\/uw-regents-approve-new-policy-on-freedom-of-expression-on-campus-day-2-news-summary\/\">adopted<\/a> a policy that mandates suspension when a student disrupts others&#8217; free speech twice and expulsion after the third offense.
