The Faculty Senate met on Monday, April 4 and overwhelmingly supported a resolution in support of academic freedom. The resolution specifically calls on Chancellor Biddy Martin to defend the academic freedom rights of the faculty and to take a leadership role in contesting and resisting the misuse of the open records laws in Wisconsin. The resolution also requested that the chancellor report back to the senate at its May 7, 2012 meeting regarding her efforts to protect academic freedom.
The full resolution can be found here.
The Board of Regents also took up the subject of academic freedom at its monthly meeting at UW-Platteville on Friday, April 8. This history of academic freedom in the University of Wisconsin System was prepared in advance of the discussion.
