Judge Refuses to Stay Collective Bargaining Ruling

Dane County Circuit Court Judge Juan Colas yesterday refused to stay his September decision that overturned much of Act 10 for municipal employees and teachers. Act 10, the budget repair bill, sharply curtailed collective bargaining for public workers. Earlier this year, labor unions representing municipal workers and teachers sued to overturn the legislation, resulting in Colas’ decision that found much of the law unconstitutional. State employee labor unions were not part of the lawsuit.

The state Department of Justice said they will appeal yesterday’s decision to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.
