The Board of Regents will meet on Thursday, September 8 to discuss the President’s Response to the President’s Advisory Committee on the Roles of UW System Administration. The report is a result of the 2011-13 state budget requirement that UW System cut its budget 25 percent and and staff positions by 40 percent.
UW System will face the $2.4 million budget cut by decentralizing its operations and giving individual campuses and their chancellors more authority. Academic program audit and review will be eliminated and campuses will instead rely on campus-level and accrediting reviews. Individual campuses will also be able to write and control their own job descriptions.
President Reilly announced last week that many of the 51 positions to be cut are already vacant, but eight employees will be laid off. The positions to be eliminated include those dealing with labor unions and collective bargaining, academic affairs, and information technology.
