University’s Critical Compensation Fund

Earlier this week, UW-Madison released the blueprint for targeted salary increases to faculty and staff in an effort to improve the widening salary gap between the university and its peers. The Critical Compensation Fund, which is not an across-the-board pay plan, will reach about thirty percent of faculty and staff with a one-time base salary increase of at least five percent. A memo sent to deans and directors about the plan is here.

Faculty have been involved in addressing compensation issues through the University Committee and the Commission on Faculty Compensation and Economic Benefits. In March, the compensation commission recommended a modest merit-based supplemental pay plan as part of its 2011-12 annual report.
