Democrats to Control State Senate

State Senator Van Wangaard (R-Racine) said yesterday that he will not pursue a lawsuit challenging the results of the recount of his June 5 recall election, clearing the way for John Lehman (D-Racine) to be sworn in as early as today. Lehman won the election by more than 800 votes and the recount decreased his margin by only 15 votes.

Control of the senate shifts to Democrats, 17-16 until November when 16 seats are up for election. The Legislature is not scheduled to be in session this summer or fall, so Democrats will most likely not have an opportunity to use its majority.
