How UW Will Fare Under New Governor

The Daily Cardinal had a nice article yesterday on how the candidates for governor will treat the University of Wisconsin System, and UW-Madison in particular, if elected next Tuesday.

In a nutshell, Republican Scott Walker says his main priority is having the UW “run more like a business” and giving individual campuses more autonomy. He is clearly impressed with Chancellor Biddy Martin and her Badger Partnership proposal.

Democrat Tom Barrett says he’s willing to consider more autonomy, but has reservations. His main goal is increasing access to higher education. He also heavily criticized Walker for his opposition to embryonic stem cell research.

Don’t forget to vote, either early or on Election Day next Tuesday!
