Election Day is just one week away, and regardless of the outcome, the new governor and legislature will face unprecedented challenges.
The state faces a $3.1 billion structural deficit, and another federal stimulus package is unlikely. How the new governor and legislature approach the budget gap is not known, but continued furloughs of state employees and changes to the Wisconsin Retirement System are possible. 20011-13 biennial budget planning will begin in earnest immediately following the election, and PROFS will work hard to advocate on behalf of faculty.
A final debate between Democrat Tom Barrett and Republican Scott Walker will take place at UW-Madison at 7 pm on Friday, October 29 and will be televised live on Wisconsin Public Television.
Polls in Wisconsin are open Tuesday, November 2 from 7 am until 8 pm, and polling information is available here.
