Senate Higher Education Committee to Meet Tuesday

The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Higher Education will meet on Tuesday, September 27 at 10 am in Room 201 Southeast of the Capitol. The committee will discuss Senate Bill 184 and the appointments of two students to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents.

Act 32, the 2011-13 state budget, created the Special Task Force on UW Restructuring and Operational Flexibilities to study the UW System and appropriated $50,000 for its expenses. The task force was directed to submit its finding by January 1, 2012. SB 184 delays the reporting deadline for the task force until January 7, 2013 and allows the committee to appropriate its funds through the biennium.

The committee will also consider the appointments of students Katherine Pointer and Troy Sherven to the Board of Regents. Pointer, a transfer student at UW-Madison, will serve a two-year term as a “traditional” student. The DePere native completed her first year at UW-La Crosse and interned for Senator Ron Johnson’s campaign in 2010. She spent the summer as an intern for the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. Sherven, a distance education student at UW-Stout, will serve for one year as a “non-traditional” student representative to the board. Sherven is manager of information services for MCD, Inc. (Madison Cutting Die) and lives in Oregon, Wisconsin.
