Senate Committee on Universities and Technical Colleges Meeting Today

The Wisconsin Senate Committee on Universities and Technical Colleges is meeting today to consider two appointments and vote on three bills. The hearing is in Room 300 Southeast in the State Capitol.

The committee is set to approve Governor Scott Walker’s appointment of UW-Platteville student Chad Landes to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. Walker had previously appointed Joshua Inglett but withdrew the nomination after learning Inglett had signed a petition to recall the governor.

Landes will serve a two-year term on the board, representing traditional students. He is from Dane and studies animal science. Landes replaces UW-Madison student Katherine Pointer, whose term expired May 1. His appointment must also be confirmed by the Senate.

The committee is also discussing Senate Bill 157, a bill that would require the governor to select a student regent who had been recommended by his or her student government. Current law allows the governor to consider student government recommendations, but the governor may select another candidate. PROFS is registered in support of SB 157.
